Why I Paint
How did you get into this work?
After a lifetime of serial entrepreneurship, I felt the need to express myself creatively in ways other than producing catalogs, creating marketing plans and designing new products. By necessity, being an entrepreneur involves living in the future and I felt the need to find ways to anchor me to the present moment. On the advice of a very wise friend I took one of those "What do you want to be when you grow up?" questionnaires at the local junior college and was stunned when it said "Artist" across the board. With the help of gifted advisers and friends, I created my personal “impossible dream” of becoming a professional artist and haven't looked back. |
Art enables us to find ourselves and |
What does creating art provide for you?
Whether in my studio or outside, with beautiful music playing, I am completely absorbed by my process of creating beauty. How do I depict the feelings that the original scene evoked in me? How do I express the mystery, soaring joy, or peace that I feel? How do I share it with my viewer? While creating art, the combination of intense problem solving and being absolutely in the sensory moment, abolishes tomorrow’s worries and yesterday’s regrets. Creating art feels light, rewarding, playful, and full of joy. It keeps me in the moment in a delicious way and feeds my soul. |
Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.

What do you like best about what you do?
Creating art is about sharing what inspires me; color, a gorgeous landscape, nature’s beauty, the magnificence of a powerful animal, a fleeting moment captured. Every viewer will have a different impression/reaction to a piece that I create, but that connection between us is the key. If my work inspires you to pause a moment and listen to your heart, then my art is successful. |
